Are you aware of how important flossing is for your smile? If you don’t already know, dental floss is extremely important for cleaning between teeth and areas that brushing alone cannot reach. Only by using interdental cleaning tools such as dental floss or a water flosser can you adequately clean between teeth and wash out food debris and plaque buildup that may be present.

Dental floss is often thought of as a product that can accurately clean all areas in your mouth that brushing alone cannot reach. This is essential to ensure plaque buildup and food debris cannot linger in your mouth. Ideally, you should brush your teeth at least twice daily and floss at least once a day as well. Make sure to always use dental floss products that are shred-resistant. As an alternative, try using enter interdental cleaning tools such as water flossers which use beams of water instead of threaded floss.

If you decide on using a threaded floss product, speak with your dentist about product recommendations or suggestions. Also, try to look for a cleaner that has been given the ADA Seal of Acceptance for product safety and effectiveness. Make sure that when you’re using a threaded floss, to always floss between each and every tooth, including the back row.

Ideally, a typical floss strand should be 20 “ in length. This ensures that you’ll be able to clean between each and every tooth. Wrap each end of the strand around a finger on each hand. Make sure the grip is loose, so you can move up and down the strand as necessary. This is important as you will need to avoid contaminating your smile by using a different section of the strand between each and every tooth. Furthermore, after your flossing section is over, throw away the strand and use a new strand for each subsequent flossing session.
